ECU Check Engine Warning
Black Stealth Down - 2009/04/20. My clutch had slipped a few times over the past few months, with very hard shaking when the cluth slipped. On the last day it slipped a bunch of times and I could feel that there was only a hair left on it, this was also the first time I had used my A/C.
This was when my Check Engine warning displayed.
I feel like the problem occurred as a result of this hard shaking or the electrical load of the A/C.
I have a digital voltmeter, so I did tests at the ECU Diagnostic Terminal.
Online, I found two images of what the terminal should look like. This is the configuration...
However, my terminal looks like this, #7 is in a different position...
I set my meter to the 20 Volt DC range, and grounded to pin #12. The reading for each pin was as follows:
------------------------------------------------------------
| 1 | ECM - MPI | Fast 10V Sweeps |
| 2 | unused | N/A |
| 3 | ESC (Elec. Ctrl. Suspension) | 0 (±0.01V) |
| 4 | ABS (Anti-Lock Brake) | No Reading |
| 5 | Cruise Ctrl. | 0 (±0.05V) |
| 6 | ELC (Automatic Trans. ??) | N/A |
| 7 | A/C (Air Conditioning) | 0 (±0.04V) |
| 8 | SRS (Air Bag) | 0 (±0.01V) |
| 9 | ETACS (Alarm) | Static on 0.74V |
| 10 | Query ECS, ABS, ECM, A/T, AC | Static on 4.45V |
| 11 | Speed Sensor | Static on 4.97V |
| 12 | Ground |
Here are the diagnostic codes (click image to enlarge):
I initially thought I was getting a Replace ECU code from pin #1.
I drove the car twice, after the Check Engine light displayed, with no problem. However, the next day, I tried to start the engine again and I heard some ugly knocking from the motor , so I shut her down immediately (I probably heard about 10 to 20 knocks).
I decided to pull the ECU to look for obvious damage on the board, so I disconnected the battery, removed the ECU, and visually inspected the board (an Av-Pro refurb.).
There was no obvious damage, no leaking capacitors or other burns or odors.
I reinstalled the ECU and metered the diagnostic terminal again. Same results as the first time. My new interpretation is that I was getting Code #1 on pins 9, 10, & 11, but really, I have no idea what I'm looking at.
